Hi just looking for direction. I am familiar with this forum but it has been awhile, FDMB provided much help with my diabetic kitty who is no longer with us--not because of diabetes but another health issue. Please forgive if I am not posting correctly!
My kidney issue is with another kitty, Alice, who is going to be 18 1/2. She has always had some GI issues since a kitten, she was malnourished. Has been healthy all her life. Some recent bouts of diarrhea and occassional vomiting led me to finally run bloodwork on her. I am a tech, used to work in regular vet med now in dermatology. It has been a long time since I had a kidney cat. Alice's SDMA is 19.9, all other values in normal range except slightly elevated eosinophils/neutrophils which may have been due to GI or kidney inflammation. Creatinine is 2.1 electrolytes normal, specific gravity 1.019. I would post the blood and UA but I don't have a way to get my copy of the results at the moment. I was advised to start a kidney diet. After almost 2 months of trying everything all she wants is Fancy Feast pate. The worst choice of my choices from the CKD food list, but all she wants. Previous experience as a young tech was basically starving my kidney cat so she would eat a renal diet. I am considering feeding her what she wants because she needs to eat and enjoy her life; add in phosphorus binder when I see her edging up on her phos level. I am open to anyone's opinion even if they thin I am doing something wrong.
