I'm working on putting some information together for a phosphorus post, and I realized I might have misinterpreted or overlooked Pookey's.

Two months ago his phosphorus was 5 mg/dL. It seems like definitely action is required if levels are above 6 mg/dL. And you really want them closer to or under 4.6 mg/dL.

He's still eating Fancy Feast which is ~475 mg phosphorus/100kcal, where the Weruva he occasionally has is ~130 mg/100kcal. Ugh, I feel bad for not realizing that was the situation. I'll work on it.

I wonder how sensitive it is. Like if we jump up again at his next bloodwork at the same rate, we're going to be into binders really fast...

Ah, good call! I’m not even sure how we have those on FDMB lol. It’s like they’re grandfathered in somehow.

Really only Porus One I’ve read about so far but still debating trying it.

I have started Porus One now that my girl is finally off of BID antibiotics (two different UTIs.) I will let you know if I see any changes in her bloodwork. It was recommended to me by her IM vet at the University of Georgia. She said that a friend (vet) of hers in private practice was seeing a lot of positive improvements in their CKD cats taking Porus One. I assume it will lower BUN of it works.

As for phosphorus, my Grace gets about 600 mg of Aluminum Hydroxide in her food and her phos was still at 5 at her last bloodwork at the beginning of July. Well, I did bump it up to 600 mg (1/2 tsp) after seeing that actually. But she was already getting at least 500 mg. and was eating Rx renal food. Now she has completely turned off the renal food and she is eating Weruva Wx chicken flavors. Sigh. Her appetite ised to be good but has been very up and down lately. Nothing else has changed. We go back to the vet this week for bloodwork and urinalysis. She had a lot of blood in her urine. No bacteria grew. Of course we will be checking kidney values and PCV (she gets Darbepoetin injections but hasn’t needed one for well over a month).

Hi Suzanne! That’s cool to hear from a vet about Porus One. I’m not sure exactly what we’re looking for as far as improvements in the bloodwork, so that’ll be good to see.

Sorry about Grace’s appetite. Do you remember what it was before the binders and low phos food? Keep me posted :bighug:
