Welcome!

You’re going slow with the transition so I would think that wouldn’t be the main driver. From what I’ve read tarry or black stools can be signs of something going on in the GI system. How’s Summi otherwise, eating and drinking and behaving normal? When was the most recent bloodwork?

I don’t have experience personally with that food but I’d be tempted to mention it to the vet and see what they think.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I have had Summi since she was six weeks old and anything at her age is just too scary.
Summi is acting normally eating drinking etc except for the tarry stools which were everywhere when we woke up this am. She had her most recent lab work done about two and a half weeks ago when she was first diagnosed.
I assume that I should continue to try and introduce the new food as planned. She has an appt with her vet on Monday so I can consult with her then. My vet originally prescribed Royal Caniin renal hydrolized dry but I don't think any diet should be totally dry food. I am the one who is driving the conversation for wet food as my vet does not seem to think beyond the dry. Any suggestions for a conversation with the vet? Again thanks so much for responding to me!!

Of course! Your instincts are good about the food. I see the hydration benefits from wet food are talked about a lot, especially for CKD cats. A lot of times with our older more complicated cats the vets can’t possibly be experts on every nuance of their care, so I can understand.

Maybe @Mary & Jude or @Chai&mocha or the others will have more thoughts about the stools.

I might pause the food transition over the weekend if it were me. Just because it seems like there could possibly be a correlation. And of course if any other symptoms come up or things get worse I’d phone a vet sooner than Monday. Keep us posted :bighug:
