Hi all,
Previous:
6/7 - Pookey - Eating more low phos food
Got the lab results back from the vet visit last week and things are stable overall. The main marker I'm looking at is phosphorus. It increased from 5.0 in March to now 6.0.
The vet is not recommending a phosphorus binder because his value is within range on the PDF (2.9 - 6.3). That's much different than basically everything I've read online. The veterinary papers and other sources say 6.0 is the take action number and ideally you want them under 5.0. So it sounds like if I'm going to address the phosphorus, I'm going to have to go a little rogue. That's okay. I ordered Catney One (lanthanum carbonate) and aluminum hydroxide to see which one he prefers. I also ordered Porus One because I've been dragging my feet about starting that.
Of course I typed all that about binders and now I'm thinking, maybe another strategy would be to try to get him eating more of the lower-phos Weruva. It's like half the phosphorus of the Fancy Feast he normally eats. But of course, he doesn't like it as much. I don't want to jump the gun over one value in an otherwise relatively stable situation.
I guess I'd love to hear from others what you would do or have done.
